Ultrasonic investigation of znsecr2 crystal was carried out at low temperatures in magnetic field applied along the wave vector the observed anomalies in magnetic field dependences of attenuation and wave number evidence for existence of resonant transitions between the energy levels of the jahn teller tetrahedral complex crse4. For zns the data indicate a weak to moderate jahn teller coupling with acoustical phonons having e and t 2 symmetry for zno coupling with a 100 cm 1 t 2 mode suffices to explain the experimental results on the basis of the jahn teller model proposed for zns a reinterpretation of the 3 t 1 p absorption band of gapni 2 is suggested
